Call for Ambassadors 2024/2025

The Association of Hungarian PhD and DLA Candidates (Doktoranduszok Országos Szövetsége, DOSZ) is delighted to announce the continuation of its latest initiative, the DOSZ Ambassador System. This program is designed with the goal of establishing a vibrant international environment for young scientists in Hungary. Our aim is to further internationalize PhD education within the country by breaking down boundaries. To achieve this, we aspire to foster international scientific connections, actively engaging with foreign PhD candidates currently conducting their research at Hungarian higher education institutions.

Since 1994 DOSZ is the national association to represent all PhD candidates in Hungary. We believe that only an internationally active PhD community can be competitive and sustainable.

We are looking for individuals who:

Please note that having experience in student advocacy and community building is an advantage.

What can the DOSZ offer?

DOSZ officially nominates all DOSZ Ambassadors on the XXVII. Spring Wind Conference in May. Through their nomination, DOSZ Ambassadors automatically become members of the DOSZ Ambassador System. Being the Ambassador of your country's young scientists entails advocating for the interests of doctoral students from your nation, organizing scientific events, and maintaining connections with your country's Embassy accredited to Hungary. The DOSZ is also committed to help PhD candidates to deal with the challenges of Hungarian labour market, and strengthen international fellows’ connection with Hungarian authorities and scientific institutions.

What are our goals?

Our main goal is building an international PhD community in Hungary and create a secure network for the PhD candidates. We will address issues of particular concern to international students, such as integrity, language barriers, mental health, cultural differences and the Stipendium Hungaricum programme.

We are dedicated to assisting you in organizing cultural-scientific events that engage participants from both Hungary and interested parties from your country. Our efforts involve fostering connections between the two nations with the collaboration of embassies, universities, scientific institutions, and other interested parties.

The Association supports DOSZ ambassadors in their ambassadorial duties, in skills and competence development through workshops and trainings. The DOSZ aims to involve international PhD Candidates in a more inclusive way to its scientific departments and its events, such as Spring Wind Conference in May, DOSZFEST in August and Milestone Conference in November. Ambassadorship is a significant role that necessitates active participation in our events, representation at certain activities, and constant availability to the DOSZ and to the doctoral students studying in Hungary from the country you represent. For more information and duties, please read carefully the document named The objectives of the Ambassador System and the tasks of the Ambassadors.

How can you apply?

If you feel the passion for joining our community and for being an active representative of your country’s young scientists, fill out the online application form and attach your professional CV, and motivation letter. In your letter of motivation explain shortly your goals, motivations, your intercultural and Hungarian connections, your experience in volunteering, advocacy, communication and in other organisations, and your connection with DOSZ, if you had any. The deadline for the application is 15 March 2024.

If you have any questions, you can contact to Norbert Bencze, the Board commissioner responsible for DOSZ Ambassador System via norbert.bencze@dosz.hu.

After the first-round selection we are going to invite the applicants for a second round online interview. Completing a short questionnaire on the tasks may be part of the selection process. Please note, among the applicants, one person is going to be chosen at the end of the selection process from each country from where DOSZ has received applications.

Applicants are going to be informed about the results of the selection process by the 25th of April. DOSZ Ambassadors are going to be nominated officially by the 3rd-5th of May 2024, during the Spring Wind Conference.
